Beef cattle exhibitions made up a large part of the Keystone Inter national Livestock Exposition (KILE), held from October 3 - 7 at the State Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. KILE, the premier indoor exposition of livestock on the North American continent, was sponsored by the Pennsylva nia Livestock Association in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and the Pennsylvania State Farm Products Show Commission. 6 of over 64 breeds of beef cattle are represented at KILE. The breeds include Angus, Limousin, Polled Hereford, Sal ers, Shorthorn, and Simmental. 609 individual cattle were regis tered for OLE events. Events included competition for premiums and special awards, separated by sex and age categories. Notable events at the show included the exhibition of Saler cattle, a European breed known for its moderate size and quality carcass, which is beginning to become established on this continent. Another notable event included the Polled Hereford Standard of Perfection Show. One of only two such shows in the country, the Polled Hereford SOP show involves a combination of mea surements along with visual appraisal by three judges. This information is entered into a microcomputer, which then gen erates the list of winners. Expositions such as KILE enable livestock owners to get expert opinions on their stock and compare their animals with those of other breeders. In this way, the overall quality of championship bred animals can be furthered. The top placings are as follows: JUNIOR STEERS Lightweight Class 1 : 1 Casey High; 2. Eugene Fritz; 3.
