    HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.)
—Teams from 10 states competed
in the 32nd Intercollegiate and
Junior Livestock Judging Contest
held in conjunction with the Key
stone International Livestock
Exposition (KILE).
The contestants had to judge 12
classes of beef cattle, sheep, and
hogs, and then present oral reasons
to explain their selections..
While the Nittany Lions were
preparing for a win in Philadelphi
a, the Pennsylvania State Universi
ty judging team had already won
the Intercollegiate Livestock Judg
ing Contest. The annual event was
open to judging teams from col
leges offering a regular four-year
course in agriculture.

Penn State Wins Twice At KILE
4,447 points to defeat the teams
from Illinois State, Ohio State,
University of Kentucky, and Vir
ginia Tech. Penn State earned a
rotating trophy from Falkland
Farms for their efforts, plus a tro
phy from the Pa. Meat Packers
Association, and a cash award
from the Pennsylvania Livestock
Association.
Donnie Sheiss led the Penn
State team with 933 points, the
highest individual score overall.
Following closely was Rae Jean
Howser from Ohio State with 928
points, Gary Blevins from the Uni
versity of Kentucky with 916,
Kent Bauman from Ohio State
with 915, and Thomas Oldfield
from the University of Kentucky
with 914 points.

The Ohio 4-H Team ou (scored
other scholastic judges from
around the country to capture first
place in the Junior Livestock Judg
ing Contest They received a tro
phy from the Pennsylvania Meat
Packers Association for their high
score of 2,120 and their coach got a
$5O cash award from the Pennsyl
vania Livestock Association. The
Ohio team also received an award
from the Pennfield Corporation for
placing first in reasons with 470
points.
Second place in the overall team
judging went to the Maryland 4-H
team with 2,078 points, followed

four 4-H or FFA teams for their
score on reasons. Alter first place
Ohio, the Indiana 4-H had 469
points, Kentucky 4-H had 467, and
Maryland 4-H had 466 points.
Larissa Scherr of the Ohio 4-H
team was the overall high scoring

with 726 points and earned the
Max Smith Award. She also
earned a desk set for placing first
during a tic-breaker in oral rea
sons. Team mate Becky Emnett
placed second overall in points and
received the Tony Oobrosky
Award for her efforts. Second
place in reasons went to Tom
Mench on the Indiana 4-H team.
