SHIPPENSBURG (Cumber
land Co.) The 4-H Dairy youth
of Cumberland County got a
chance to show off their cattle dur
ing a recent county roundup held at
the Shippensburg Fairgrounds.
Competitions were not only on
type with the six major dairy
breeds, but included showmanship
as well.
The heaviest breed competition
was with the Holsteins and
Jerseys.
The judge of the show was Chris
Woods, of Littlestown.
In the Holstein breed. The
senior and grand champion was

10-year-old showmanship division, while Sandy Anderson
is named second place.

Noreen Fortran-Red, shown by
Julie Ann Dyarman, of Newville.
The Hosltein junior champion
was a summer yearling, Tri-Day
Starbuck Tasha, shown by Matth
ew David Day, of Shippensburg.
Day also showed the reserve junior
champion, a senior calf, Tri-Day
Starbuck Mona Lisa.
Top honors were kept all in the
family in the Jersey breed competi
tions, with the senior and grand
champion, 5-year-old Dorina’s
Legend Delaura, being shown by
Melanie Dietrich, of Newburg.
Melanie also showed the reserve
junior champion, Carrock Boomer
Daria.
The reserve senior and grand
Jersey was 4-year-old Carrock
Boss Man Whopper, shown by lan
Dietrick. And the junior Jersey
champion was an intermediate
calf, Emily’s Boomer Treasure,
shown by Emily Dietrick.
In the Ayrshire breed, Michael
Hensel, of Newburg, went home
with a senior ribbon and grand
champion rosette with the placing
of his 4-ycar-old MRK E-Z Win
Saydra.
Mary Dcaven, of Newburg,
showed the reserve senior and
grand champion. Cove Creek
Cap’s Goody Gumdrop, a 5-year
old.
In the Ayrshire junior division,
the champion was Conebella Ste
ven’s Nora, a summer yearling
shown by Mary Deaven. Heath
Ocker, of Shippensburg, showed
the reserve junior champion, Ock
erdale Champ Jamie Joyce, a
senior yearling.
In the Milking Shorthorn breed,
with entries outnumbering the
Guernsey and Brown Swiss, the
senior and grand champion was
Three Springs Ashley, a senior
2-year-old, shown by Christine
Young, of Newvillc. The reserve
senior and grand champion was
Three Springs Scarlet, a junior
2-year-old shown by James
Young.
In the Guernsey breed, Michael
Hensel showed both the junior and
grand champion and the reserve
junior and grand champion cattle.
His Green Acres Ben Betsy, a
summer yearling, was grand
champion and his Mt. view
Sergeant EUie, a senior calf, was
reserve.
James also showed the junior
champion, an intermediate calf,
Three Springs Sunset Jennifer
Miller, also of Newville, showed
the reserve junior champion. Three
Springs Lilac EXP.
Justin Fuls, of Shippensburg,
showed the champion Brown
Swiss, a junior calf. Shady Creek
Lois Lisa. The reserve grand
champion was shown by his sister,
Heather. It was a senior calf. Vic
tory Acres Jared Polly-Twin.
In the showmanship competi
tions, the competition was broken
down into three different age clas
ses with the winner class, the top
two in each division, qualifying for
district level competitions later
this month.
In the junior division, for ages 8
to 10, the first place showman was
David Day, of Shippensburg,
while Sandy Anderson, of Boiling
Springs, scored a second place.
In the intermediate division, for
ages 11 to 13 years, the first place
winner was John Leib Jr., of
Machanicsburg, while Matthew
Day, of Shippensburg, took
second.
In the senior division, for those
14 years or older, the first place
honors went to Craig Watson, of
Carlisle and second went to Chris
Young, of Newville.
