Ag Progress Days-
August 13-15
Many of you will remember
that today’s Ag Progress Days got
started many years ago as Forage
Progress Days sponsored by the
Pennsylvania Forage and Grass
land Council in cooperation with
Penn State University and many
other organizations and agencies.
The theme of this year’s show is
“Ag Science Touches Your Life”,
and features a host of activities
covering all aspects of agricultural
science and technology.
But there are still plenty of for
age related events to wet your
appetite. One traditional event, of
course, is the PFGC-sponsored
Pennsylvania Quality Hay Show.
You’re invited to send in or bring
in a sample or samples of your
best hay forjudging and analysis.
Samples should be at least 8” to
10” thick, larger is better, and
must be delivered to the Hay
Show Tent by 10 a.m., Tuesday,
August 13. And unless disap-

Pasture/Grazing
Field Day-August 27
And if you’re interested in the
latest in pasture production and
management you won’t want to
miss the PFGC sponsored Pasture/
Grazing Field Day scheduled for
August 27 at Penn State. Research
and extension specialists in Agro
nomy and Dairy and Animal Sci
ence have teamed up for what is
sure to be an exceptional educa
tional experience. Activities will
get underway about 9 A.M. at
Penn State’s Agricultural Arena
and will include, in addition to
several outstanding speakers, bus
and wagon tours to both the Dairy
Grazing and Beef and Sheep
Grazing research studies. And
regardless of your livestock enter
prise you’ll have a great opportun
ity to exchange ideas and experi
ences with other producers
switching back to grazing.
As is true with Ag Progress
Days, admission is free for this
event. However, there will be a
nominal charge at the door for
lunch and refreshments and you
are urged to sign up ahead of time.
Again, your local county agent or
Extension Forage Specialist Mar
vin Hall at Penn State has all the
details.
Annual Forage Conference-
And while it’s still nearly four
months away, and is not a field
day, I can’t miss this chance to
remind you that PFGC’s Annual
Forage Conference is scheduled
for November 26 at the Lancaster
Host Conference Center,
Lancaster.
We’ve added several now fea
tures to this year’s conference,
including Hay Bale Judging and a
small trade show, as well as a
great lineup of speakers.
You’ll hear much more about
this conference in the months
ahead. But it isn’t too early to get
the date on your calendar.
