Cumberland County
The family farming operation of Curtis and Ann Day is located near Shlp
pensburg in Cumberland County. They have 120 acres and milk a herd of
registered Holsteins with 58 milk cows and 38 replacement heifers. The
herd average is 21,100 m, 789 f, 706 p. The herd is classified with BAA 104.5
with four excellent and 22 very good cows In the barn. The Days, along with
Curtis’ parents Roger and Lucille and their children Matthew, 13; David, 11
and Sarah, 8; moved from Maryland two years ago. The herd prefix Is Tri-
Day.
Bruce and Margret Zell have owned the Will-Adele Farm located near
Hummelstown In Dauphin County for 46 years. Their son Larry is now tak
ing over the farm where they have 200 head of Hoisteins. They milk 85 cows
in a double six harrlngbone milking parlor. In addition, they raise their bull
calves for beef and have a grain drying operation. The Zells farm 450 acres.

State. The Nlssleys do the field work and Donald Groff is In charge of the
dairy operation. They started this arrangement two years ago and It is work
ing out well. They have 75 cows plus the young stock. The herd average is
17,000 lbs. of milk, and they farm 250 acres. The Nlssleys have four child
ren, Jeff, 12; Jason, 9; Renee, 7; and Jeremey, 3.
