The project is scheduled to produce in excess of 1 million market hogs per year once the program reaches maturi ty- After two years of dedicated preparation, breeding stock was shipped from DEKALB’S research and development farms on May 2, 1991 and arrived in Beijing, China on May 6, 1991 All of the animals arrived in excel lent condition despite the four-day journey. During the preparation process, the breeding stock successfully passed the nrorous health require ments needed tor swine importa tion into China. In addition to the sale of breed ing stock, DEKALB Swine Breed ers, Inc. will provide swine pro duction expertise at the farm site near Beijing. Chinese representa tives from the farm project will participate in swine production training at DEKALB’s Swine Management Training Center near Plains, Kan. Students will receive both classroom and actual swine management experience on DEKALB’s Foundation Farms near Plains,. Kan. China’s per capita consumption of all meat is about one third of U.S. levels, despite its production of nearly 40 percent of the world’s pork.
