820-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, June 22, 1991 FFA Littlestown FFA Holds Annual Awards Banquet On Saturday, May 18, the Lit tlestown FFA Held its third annual FFA Awards Program at Littles town High School. The program was conducted entirely by the 1990-1991 chapter officers: President Mandy Hilbert, Vice President Jeff Buckley, Sec retary Michelle Markline, Treasur er Carliss Brown, Reporter Steve Chalk, Sentinel Steve Dutterer, Junior Advisor Jody Brown, and Chaplain Duane Koontz. Present ing awards was Larry Feeser of the Pennsylvania State FFA Association. The Greenhand Degree is awarded to first-year members who have been active in chapter activities and demonstrated know ledge about the organization. HAPPENINGS Bowman, Chad Fowler, Ron Hil bert, Jason Hoff, Heidi Rode, Jesse Roop, Randy Wiseman, John McMAster, Neal Klingler, Brian Reaver, Keith Rohrbaugh, Allen Sanders, and Missy Toller were presented with their Greenhand. Ron Hilbert was selected Star Greenhand. Ron has been a very active member of the Littlestown FFA, having attended the Fresh man Leadership Conference at Penn State and the FFA Mid- Winter Convention in Harrisburg. Ron won the Adams County FFA creed contest, placed fourth out of 34 in the ag mechanics contest, and participated in the Envirothon and volleyball tournaments, and many other activities. Ron raises swine for his supervised agricultural experience program and showed his animals at the farm show this year. The Chapter FFA Degree is awarded to older students who Youth To Study In Germany ALEXANDRIA, Va. Janessa Burkholder of Ick esburg has won a 1991-1992 Congress-Bundestag scholarship. This scholarship provides her the opportunity to study agriculture in Germany for a year as a part of the National FFA Organization’s World AgriScience Studies (WASS) exchange program. Fourteen FFA members from across the nation were chosen for this special scholarship. Burkhol der, 18, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Burkholder and a member of the West Perry Senior High School FFA chapter. Samuel Wagner is her FFA advisor. The United States Congress and the German Bundestag, the Ger man parliament, provide funding for this program through a grant to have established SAE projects, demonstrated leadership ability, and been active in many chapter activities. This year’s winners were Chad Dutterer, Steve Dutter er, Jesse Beachtel, Michelle Mark line, and Duane Koontz. A Star Chapter Farmer is chosen from all students currently holding the Chapter Farmer Degree. This person must be a proven leader and have an outstanding SAE project. This year’s winner was Chad Dut terer. Chad’s SAE includes raising swine, which he has shown at Farm Show and the Adams County Sheep and Swine Show, working on a Morgan horse farm, and milk ing cows for an area dairy farmer. Chad has been elected sentinel of the Littlestown FFA for next year. Chad was presented his award by Mandy Hilbert, last year’s Star Chapter Farmer. A Star Agribusiness Award* is given to a person holding the Chapter FFA Degree but with a project in the agribusiness area. This year’s winner is David Inglis. In addition to agricul tural exchanges, the Congress- Bundestag Program provides funding for 300 scholarships in academic, vocational, and young professional exchanges. Before departing, scholarship winners will attend a six-day orientation at the National FFA Center. Seminars will focus on political systems in the USA and Germany, cross-cultural commu nication, and adapting to another culture. Following the orientation and travel to Germany, Burkholder will complete two months of Ger man language training in Radolf zell, Germany.
