All junior members, regardless of breed orientation, are invited to attend the school nearest to their home. 4-H and FFA members are also invited to attend one of the schools. The two-day schools run from noon one day to noon the next Twelve classes are judged, each person in attendance has an oppor tunity to work one-on-one with an experienced judge on giving rea sons. All the basics of judging cattle are covered by our school official. The school officials this year are Richard Keene, Gilbertsville, N.Y., and Curtis Day, of Shippens burg. They are both well-known judges having worked national shows. They are excellent teach ers. Both have spent a lot of time working with their respective county 4-H judging teams. Participants will have the oppor tunity to judge Ayrshires, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein, Jersey, and Milking Shorthorn cattle dur ing the two-day conference. The school official is Loren The 114th American Guernsey Association (AGA) annual meet ing will be held in St. Louis, Mo., on June 24. The convention, sche duled for June 21-24, will be held at the Breckenridge Fronlenac Hotel. The Missouri Guernsey Breeders' Association has planned a number of relaxing, enjoyable social events during the weekend prior to the meeting. Some of the activities include a tour of the Gateway Arch of St Louis, a Cardinals baseball game, the Missouri Botanical Gardens, Anheuser Busch Brewery and a Missouri hometown dinner. These are just a few of the activities planned during the convention. For the youth some of the events scheduled include a quiz bowl competition, the queen contest and spending a day at the amusement park, "Six Flags Over Mid- The Western School is to be held July 7 and July 8, with Blair County Holstein Club acting as host. Curtis Day is to be the official for that school. Host farms include that of John and Robert Black, the Thomas Kelley farm, Burket Falls Farms, Bemetto Gable and David Stonerook. The Eastern School is scheduled for July 9 and July 10 in Susque hanna County with Richard Keene serving as official. The cost is $25 each for those staying overnight That includes school costs, hotel room and an evening meal. For-commuters, the cost is $l5, which covers school costs and an evening meal. Some of the awards presented at this year's convention include the Master Breeder Award which will be awarded to J. Jene Mungle of Atoka, Ok. Breeder and developer of Mun gles Guernsey Farm, Mr. Mungle has contributed many years of dedicated service and quality cattle to the Guernsey breed. He was the breeder of the national grand champion at last year's show in Louisville, Ky. Leslie Peckham of Fort Atkin son, Wis., is the recipient of the AGA Distinguished Service Award. The Pennsylvania Hols tein Association is sponsoring a statewide picnic for members and friends, July 13, at Evergreen Farms, in Spruce Creek. The purpose of the event is to provide a day of fun, relaxation, education, good food and fellowship. Evergreen Farms, owned by R. Wayne Harpster, president of the state association, is located along Rt. 45, about 15 miles,westof State College. Picnic events are to start at 11 a.m. There will be an opportunity to view Harpstcr’s dairy operation, try some fly fishing, visit special guests, leant about new technolo gies coming in the dairy industry, enjoy a luncheon picnic and visit Farm Fresh Summer Western-Blair with fellow Holstein breeders. The cost for the luncheon is $3 per person. The meal is provided by the Pennsylvania Beef Council with the dessert and beverage pro vided by the Huntingdon County Holstein Club. There will be recreational activ ities for the young and young at heart Plan to bring your family, and share the fun.
