Farm Women Celebrate At Spring Rally Event LOU ANN GOOD Lancaster Farming Staff READING (Berks Co.) In keeping with their society’s song, 835 Farm Women members “brightened a comer” of the Shera ton Berkshire on May 23. At the Society of Farm Women of Pennsylvania 26th Spring Rally, Berks County talent provided the entertainment Joyce Schott and Lucy Meyer sang duets and led the audience in old-time favorites. Henry Zerbe of Bemville who works for the return of the family outhouse offered a repetoirc of outhouse jokes. Lester Breininger, a potter and antique collector, gave fascinating accounts about collecting Ameri can country. The Spring Rally traditionally is a fun day and a business meeting is not held. During the day-long event. Dot tie Strieker, state vice president in charge, introduced past and pre sent officers. Naomi Bupp, a past state president, told about the 436-page Farm Women Cookbook that has just been released. The intricately illustrated cookbook contains 2,200 recipes from mem bers and their families. It is sold for $l5. President Arlene Witman intro duced a heifer that needs a name for the upcoming heifer project A prize will be given to the winning entry. Witman said the heifer was bom in Somerset County where the first Farm Women society was established. The Society of Farm Women of Pennsylvania meet monthly in their individual societies and twice a year, at the Spring Rally and dur ing the Pennsylvania Farm Show. Lancaster Society 16 Fanil Women Society No. 18 met May 18 at the home of Betty Hess. Mildred Kreider, president, presided. Belly Geib spoke on homemade soap, which she makes in her home. On June 15 the society is taking a bus trip to see “Spirit of Ameri can” in Landover, Maryland. .•iing plays a German redware pottery that Farm Women members could examine and purchase at the Spring Rally.
