and food banks, plus three housing
projects in inner-city Washington,
D.C. received produce from these
gleanings.
According to Colyott, this
year’s goal is 850,000 pounds of
produce.
“Each year, about 60 million
tons of grain, fruit and vegetables
are wasted enough food to feed
49 million people a day,” said Col
yott. “Between 13 and 18 million
people die each year from the
effects of hunger. Event here in the
United States, people go hungry
every day. Tragically, children
suffer the most”
