Berks Co. Recognizes FFA Members
Pa. Holstein Association Championship Show Schedule
student from the school won this
honor, said Ronald Frederick, agri
culture instructor for the school.
Rost and more than 20 other
FFA members received awards
during a banquet in the Kutztown
Grange.
Rost won the honor, competing
with nearly 20 other contestants,
for his detailed record book about
his activities in improving wildlife
habitat Robert L. Frail, a state
conservation officer, said Rost had
to make up an outline, follow it
through, and keep a record of his
efforts, including photos.
Some of the things Rost did for
his project included planting trees,
building up brush, and border cut
ting. He also built boxes for wood
ducks and blue birds, Frederick
said.
Frederick said Rost plans to
attend the Pennsylvania School of
Technology in Williamsport next
year with a major in forestry.
Rodger Bashorc, president of
the county FFA and a member of
the Oley Valley FFA, was named
county star farmer. He said his
application for the award listed his
numerous accomplishments
throughout the year in production
farming of swine, beef, dairy, com,
and soybeans.
Randy Balthascr, of the Ham
burg FFA and vice-president of the
county group, was runner-up for
the honor.
Mike Angstadt of the Oley Val
ley FFA was named county star
agribusinessman. It was his exten
sive experience working for Pike
ville Equipment, which sells farm
equipment, that netted him the
honor, he said. He added that he
hopes someday to become a busi
ness manager.
Other applicants for this honor
were Chad Stambaugh and Steve
Davis, both of the Hamburg FFA.
Enc Marshall, treasurer for the
state FFA, made some opening
remarks.

Holstein Association State Picnic
STATE COLLEGE (Centre
Co.) The Pennsylvania Hols
tein Association is sponsoring a
statewide picnic for members and
friends, July 13, at Evergreen
Farms, in Spruce Creek.
The purpose of the event is to
provide a day of fun, relaxation,
education, good food and
fellowship. y
Evergreen Farms, owned by R.
Wayne Harpster, president of the
state association, is located along
Rt. 45, about 15 miles west of State
College.
Picnic events are to start at 11
