At a retirement party, on Thursday evening, complete with blue and white ballons,
spotlights, and Ice cream, Jay Irwin, retiring Lancaster County agent, and his wife Bet
ty were honored by family, farmers, agribusiness associates, and friends —more than
300 of them. Many citations, remarks of praise and admiration, were given.
In a special tribute, the title of County Agent Emeritus was created by Penn State In
order for Jay to maintain his valuable presence in the extension system.
Jay and Betty are scheduled to fly to Poland in early June to represent the university
on a teaching mission to the Polish County Agent System. John Schwartz, the newly
appointed Lancaster County agent, made the announcement and the presentation.
