Stees stands with his wife, Sally,
overlooking the pond he constructed on the farm.
But being recognized as Farmer
of the Year brings a sense of pride
to the Chester Co. dairyman.
‘ ‘I still feed the real award to me
is knowing that I took a marginal
piece of land and made it into
something,” said Stees. “That
makes me feel, hey, I did do some
thing, I made a difference on this
property. I’m not seeking the
awards. I’m not that type of person.
I’m going to do what’s best for the
property and what’s best for the
family.
“I think the greatest enjoyment
is seeing the improvements that we
make every year,” he said. “And
it’s just a feeling of our indepen
dence it’s fantastic!”

Breezy-Farms is owned and
operated by the John H. Kocher
family. Currently they are milking
200 registered Holsteins in a new
blue diamond double 10 parlor
with automatic take-offs. Heifers
are raised in a modernized heifer
bam which has drawn a lot of
interest since its completion. John
and Margie grow all their own
feed on the 600-acre farm.
