Co.) The Lancaster Poultry
Association has established a new
award to recognize Lancaster Co.
families that have owned a poultry
business for at least two
generations.
The businesses may be farms,
marketing, feed, poultry supplies,
or poultry service businesses.
These “multigenerational”
businesses will be recognized at
the Lancaster Co. Poultry Progress
Day, March?, 1991, at the Lancas
ter Farm and Home Center.
‘ ‘LancasterCounty is one of this
country’s top poultry producing
areas,” said Thomas R. Pantano,
president of the association. “This
is the result of many poultry opera
tions being in the same family for
several generations. As an associa
tion, we take pride in Lancaster
County and the many fine farm

District board of directors at their
reorganization meeting held
recently. Stoner had served as vice
chairman.

“One of the reasons the poultry
industry is so strong in the county
is because of the family farms,”
said Jay Irwin, Lancaster Co.
extension director. ‘‘The strength
of the industry is in the family
farm. We are trying to identify and
recognize those families who have
maintained that tradition.”
During the Poultry Progress
Day, a slide presentation will fea
ture the farms that have contri
buted to the poultry industry in the
county.
