This is the first year he operated the farm, and said that simple management, includ ing breeding cows on lime and making the best use of the DHIA tests, helped them improve milk and protein production. The feed is tested by F. M. Browns and Son. The breed is sired by a combina tion of Atlantic Breeders, Sire Power, and CIAQ, from Canada. For S&M Ayr, the day begins at 4:30 a.m., and milking begins at 5 a.m. The last milking is about 5 p.m., and the day doesn’t end until about 7 p.m. The farm’s operator enjoys “being his own boss.” But S&M Ayr has help from the family when the operators need time to rest from their hard work.
