Luzerne County DHIA Meets
The Luzerne County Dairy
Herd Improvement Association
(DHIA) completed it’s 61st year
of testing with 18 whole year
herds and 6 owner sampler herds.
During 1990, 1,176 cows were
on test in the county producing an
average of 16,431 pounds of milk,
646 pounds of butterfat and 527
pounds of protein per cow.
Special honor went to Fred
Shultz, Berwick, who had the top
herd with 22,097 pounds of milk,
952 pounds butterfat and 708

pounds respectively. Fred ranks
third in the state for top holstein
herd for butterfat for 1990, and
having recently sold his herd, Fred
was honored for 41 years on test in
Luzerne County.

Luzerne County DHIA was held
at the Lookout House, Nescopeck
with Martin Smith presiding.
Directors for the 1991 year are
Carl Troxell, Nelson Dent, Butch
Manzoni Jr., Michael Pecora,
Jeanette Yost and Eugene Chapin.
Officers include Martin Smith,
president; William Dagostin 111,
vice president; and William Con
yngham, secretary-treasurer.
