Hlllcroft Farms Is located about four miles south of Somerset, off Rt. 281.
Brothers Roger and Jeff Ling run the farm through a partnership they
formed to purchase the operation from their father, Hayes, making them the
third generation on the farm. Roger said Hayes still helps out. The two cur
rently milk about 60 grade Holstelns, that average about 19,000 pounds of
milk, and the brothers keep about 30 replacement stock on hand. They also
raise all their own feed on about 200 acres, 190 tillable acres of the
283-acres farm, and 11 rented. The barn Is a 60-stall stanchion. Roger and
his wife Ginger and Jeff and his wife Mary live on the farm.
Not too long ago, this farm was host to 1,000 people as part of the county
June Day On The Farm program to promote farm education In the area. With
200 acres and another 50 rented guests got to see fields in barley, corn and
alfalfa, a combination tie-stall and free-stall facility, a couple acres of apple
orchard and small plot of potatoes for home sales and about 50 registered
and grade Hoslteins that have been producing about 17,500 pounds of milk
on average. There are also about 45 replacement animals. The farm has
been In the family since 1923 and, though not an official partnership, now is
run by the father-son team of Michael and Dennis Zimmerman. Son Dennis
is married to Jane, a registered nurse and the two have a son, Scott, and
Brenda, 9 who help out with chores. The farm is located 9 miles north of
Somerset, just off Rt. 985 near the village of Sipesville and has a Boswell
RD2 address.

for more than 100 years and the husband and wife team milk 50 to 55 regis
tered Holstelns. The couple strictly sell milk and currently keep 42 replace
ment stock.
