brother James, sister Gertrude Hippchen, and James' son Timothy, 21,
and nephews Steven, 19 and Wesley, 19. More than 300 acres are
farmed, with Ayrshlres and Holsteins numbering about 110 head, and
the young stock numbers about 35. The farm has been in the family for
about 74 years. Ayrshire Dairy also operates a dairy store on the farm
which has self-service gas. An Ayrshire cow, made of fiberglass and
measuring 15 feet tall, 20 feet long, and 5 feet wide at a total of 1,200
pounds has greeted visitors for 25 years and has often been the
background for many wedding and other pictures by vlstors to the
farm, said Gertrude.
Robert McLaughlin, his wife Jan and son Joe, 12, operate this
135-acre farm in McKean, Pennsylvania. They raise 35 head of Holstein
and their herd average Is 16,900 pounds. The farm has been In the fami
ly about 110 years.

Distinction farm has been in the family about 50 years, according to
George’s wife, Ann. The farm Is operated by George A. Swanson, Ann,
and nephews Pete Vollmer, 18 and Pat Vollmer, 16 and Scott Vollmer,
21, In addition to a stepson, Allen Glnther, 14. While farming may be
hard and time-consuming, the Swansons also drive three schoolbuses
for schools In the St. Marys area.
