    John Schmidt operates this farm In Conneautvllle, where he grows
alfalfa, claiming sole proprietorship of the “only field of alfalfa grown
here in the valley, because It’s do dry.” Schmidt farms 150 acres and
raises 49 head of Holstein and 20 young stock. His milking average Is
22,500 pounds. He purchased the farm in January this year.
Cumberland County
This farm run by M. Thomas and Cindy Sheaffer sits on 400 acres and Is
home to a herd of registered Holsteins, split down about 60 milking, 60 heif
ers and about 30 bulls for breeding. The husband and wife operation is
located along Lebo Road, and has been in the family for seven generations.
The herd averages about 19,500 pounds milk and has a BAA classification
of 108.4. In addition to selling milk, the Sheaffers sell a number of bulls for
breeding.
