Holstein-Friesian Services Show Net Profit For
CHARLESTON, S.C. The
105lh Annual Convention of the
Hosltein-Friesian Association of
America, held in Charleston, S.C.,
June 23 through June 28, saw
Donald Seipt, of Easton, Pa., retain
his presidency.
Also, the national convention
sale. Southern Charm, held early in
the week, saw an average $5,686
on 111 lots with a high individual
sale of $55,000 for a Pennsylvania
cow consigned by Plushanski
Farms. A silent auction held later
in the week saw an average of
$9,900 on 27 lots with a high indi
vidual price of $30,000 and a high
group price of $120,000 for a six
bull package.
Last year’s convention sale saw
an average $5,850 on 144 lots and
a high group bid of $125,000 for a
four bull package.
According to published reports,
the high individual from the open
sale was for Plushanski Fistar-ET,
a Blackstar daughter of Plushanski

of fat at two years, according to
Holstein officials.
The buyer was Feather Friends
Syndicate out of Lowell, Miss.
Beer Farms Inc., from Beme, Ind.,
was the consignor.
The six-bull package was pur
chased by Dixieland Syndicate out
of Eatonton, Ga., consigned by
Georgia breeders.
Also during the sale, a three-bull
package sold as a lot totaling
$60,000. They were consinged and
purchased by South Carolina
dairymen.

During a reorganizational meet
ing, Seipt was re-elected president.
Carl Butler was re-elected vice
president. Continuing on the board
of directors are Thomas Kelly,
from Tyrone; and David Bach
mann, Sheboygan Falls, Wise.
New on the board are Joann
Hartmann, Waterloo, 111., and Ted
Halback, Tuscon, Ariz.
In his report, Seipt told mem
bers that the association finished
the year just under the break-even.
Registrations were down slightly
and IHF reports were also down.
However, Seipt reported that the
Hosltein-Freisian Services
showed a profit of $212,000 with
out including any benefits from the
federal Export Enhancement
program.
In other business, the board of
directors approved constructing a
50,000 square foot office building
and an 8,200 square-foot addition
to the facility in Brattleboro, Vt.

For Game Birds
UNIVERSITY PARK (Centre
Co.) To reduce stress, mortali
ty, and body damage to game
birds being released, moved,
handled or when you anticipate
periods of high mortality, consider
one of the following old remedies;
• Cod-liver oil in one thin line
on top of the feed one morning a
week at the rate of one pint per
100 pounds of feed.
• Hard cooked (boil only until
solid) eggs chopped up on top of
feed (do not mix into feed) once a
week at the rate of one egg per two
birds. A place to used cracked or
off-grade eggs.
• Epsom salts (magnesium sul
fate) at one teaspoon per gallon of
water one day a week then rinse
out and clean waterer and replace
with fresh water for the other six
days.

ci, feed a pan of buttermilk, skim
milk, or whole milk at the rate of
one gallon per 100 birds once a
week until enteritis is past.
None of the above leave harm
ful residues, so you may feed them
a day before market.
