Lancaster Steer Takes Top Title At Franklin 4-H Show

SHIPPENSBURG (Cumber
land Co.) - Forty-four steers from
five states competed for trophies
and cash awards at the Eighth
Annual Franklin County 4-H
Spring Preview Show.
Held Saturday, June 2 at the
Shippensburg Fairgrounds, judge
for the event was Chester Hughes,
extension livestock agent for Lan
caster County.
Grand Champion of the show
was a medium heavyweight
Angus/Chiana cross steer owned
by Kristin Chubb of Lancaster
County.
Hughes said he admired the
grand champion for its complete
ness and correctness. The reserve
champion, “a carbon copy of the
champ,” according to Hughes,
was a light heavyweight steer

Earlier in the show, Mullinex
had been named champion fitter
and shower. The reserve champ
ion fitter and shower award went
to Eric Sheiss of Franklin County.
The 4-Hers were judged 70% on
showing and 30% on fitting.
Hughes complimented the
4-Hers on the depth of quality evi
dent in the classes. “It was a pow
erful show with excellent steers,”
he said.

With Western Holstein Show

with a five-minute judging time
for each class.
There will be two age groups
for participants, Junior Division
8-13 years old; Senior Division
14-21 years old as of July 27.
Teams will be made up of four
people.
Awards will be presented to the
first place team in each division
and the fust place individual in
each division.
This contest is open to any
young person. People can enter as
a team or as individuals.
