Out of the dozen or more chemicals that they produce, most of them are for soybeans. So they sort of have gotten behind the soybean associations and spon sored a lot of their activities.” After the trip, Musser may try to find time to take off from the long days. “We take some time off. Dad’s still here helping us out a lot. So you know if we want to, we can get off to visit somebody or go to the beach in the summer. It’s nice when you have the family here.” Jim Musser, Mt. Joy, was recognized by the Mid-Atlantic Soybean Association and the American Soybean Associa tion (ASA) as this year’s winner of the DuPont Young Lead er Award. The convention, sche duled for June 15-18, will be held at the Bob Greene Executive Inn. The Indiana Guernsey Breed ers’ Association has planned a number of relaxing, enjoyable social events during the weekend prior to the meeting. Some of the activities include touring historic New Harmony, dinner and danc ing on the Executive Queen river boat and viewing the Lincoln Out door Drama. The youth will also have an enjoyable and educational time competing in the quiz bowl com petition, the queen contest and spending a day at the amusement park, “Holiday World.” During the annual youth banquet Sunday Lancaster Fanning, Saturday, May 12,1M0-A2l evening, the national outstanding Guernsey youth will be named as well as the Outstanding Young Guernsey Fanner. Some of the awards to be pre sented at this year’s convention include the Master Breeder Award which will be awarded to Bernard and Mary Pralle of Onalaska, WI. Breeders and developers of Fauv er Hill Guernseys, the Pralles have contributed many years of dedi cated service and quality cattle to the Guernsey breed. Their disper sal this past year was the highest averaging Guernsey dispersal in four years. Carl Fortkamp of Coldwater, OH, is the recipient of the AGA Distinguished Service Award. The 77-year-old breeder of Gold Ban ner Guernseys has spent most of his life promoting and educating people about the Guernsey cow. His herd of Guernseys has been well promoted locally, statewide and nationwide. High production awards in both the junior and senior divisions will be presented. These will include high herds for all production levels, junior gold star breeds and high individual production for the junior among others. Directors for district one and four will be announced during the annual meeting on the 18th. Richard J. Cronin of Jane Lew, WV, and Robert Holcomb of Greene, NY, are the two nominees for district one. All active mem bers of district one are eligible to vote by ballot until June 17. This district is comprised of the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Washington D.C., Maine, Mary land, Massachusetts, New Hamp shire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Vir ginia and foreign countries. Donald Peterson of Cashton, WI, and Weldon Peterson Sr. of Malone, WI, are the two nominees for district four which is com prised of the state of Wisconsin. All active members of district four are eligible to vote. Ballots must be returned by June 17. Following the annual meeting, the National Convention and Heif er Sale will be held in the conven tion center of the hotel. Approxi mately SO head of top quality Guernseys from around the United States will be auctioned. Headlin ing the sale are Excellent cows with high production, fancy show heifers, embryo packages, bull packages and potential bull mothers. Reservation deadline for con vention activities is May 25.
