ST. JOSEPH, MO This
year’s Western National Angus
Futurity held April 30 and May 1
at the Reno Livestock Events Cen
ter in Reno, Nevada, proved to be
a competitive event for those who
exhibited cattle.
A strong set of Angus breeding
cattle from the East Coast to the
West Coast were viewed by spec
tators as well as by judge Ken
Conway, Briggs, Texas, and asso
ciate judge Jim Reeves, Keller,
Texas. By the end of the second
day of judging, Conway and
Reeves had placed a total of 144
bulls and heifers at the Roll of
Victory angus point show.
A December 1987 son of S C R
Lone Star 411 was awarded the
grand champion bull banner. L A
Magic is owned by Bear Creek
Angus Ranch, Cameron, Monta
na, and Vintage Angus, Modesto,
California. He earlier stood as the
senior winner.
A group of breeders exhibited
the reserve grand champion bull.
Brady’s Booker 918 is owned by
Weldon Brady, Knob Noster, Mis
souri; Weaver Angus Farm, Peori
a, Illinois; and Conner Cattle Co.,
Edwards, Illinois. This March
1989, Grubbs Mac Kenzie son
also won the early junior calf
champion ribbon.
Lori Franklin, 19, a junior
Angus breeder from La Salle, Col
orado, led out the grand champion
female at the Futurity. F F F
Diablo Suzie, a January 1989
daughter of S C R Lone Star 411,
also won the early junior calf title.
Another junior Angus breeder,
Rachelle Whitfield from Gilles
pie, Illinois, won the reserve grand
champion female banner with her
entry, W A F Annie 832. Earlier
named the junior winner, she is a
March 1988 daughter of S C R
Lone Star 411.
The purple ribbon in the get-of
sire division went to offspring by
SCR Lone Star 411 The champ
ions were put together by Weaver
Angus Farm. Weaver’s continued
their winning streak in the group
class by exhibiting the junior get
of-sire champions. The trio of
calves were sired by Grubbs Mac
Kenzie. Premier Angus Inc.,
Cloverdale, Indiana, lined up the
best six head of Angus breeding
cattle. ,
The reserve senior champion
bull of the show was Ankonian
Asteroid. He is owned by Ankony
Shadow Isle Ranch, Minatare,
Nebraska.
Junior champion bull honors
went to S A F Napoleon. He is
owned by Steve Silbernagel,
Napoleon, North Dakota; Cedar
crest Farm, Palmyra, Wisconsin;
H.B. Walters & Son, Versailles,
Kentucky; and Weaver Angus
Farm. F F Starstruck walked away
with the reserve junior champion
bull ribbon for Annalea Farms
Ltd., Kennett Square, Pennsylva
nia; J. Carlton Clore, Culpeper,
Virginia; and Freeman Farm,
Cumberland, Virginia.
Starburst claimed the interme
diate champion bull title for Win
dabrae Farm, Greenwich, Connec
ticut; Fox Hill farm, Unionville,
Pennsylvania: and Annalea Farms
Ltd. Premier Angus Inc. together
with E&W Cattle Company,
Greentown, Indiana, and Irish
Oaks Farm, Metamora, Michigan,
showed the reserve intermediate
champion bull. He is E&W Black
Jack.
The senior bull calf winner was
Premier Testarossa, and he is
owned by Premier Angus Inc.
M&M Diablo Fireman stood as
the reserve senior bull calf winner
Western National Angus Event *Competitive ’
Annalea Classic Example and her March bull calf, sired
by G D A R Rainmaker 340, were named the champion cow
with a natural calf at the 1990 Western National Angus
Futurity held at the Reno Livestock Events Center In Reno,
Nevada, April 30 and May 1. The pair Is owned by Fox Hill
Farm, Unionvllle, Pennsylvania; Annalea Farms Ltd., Ken
nett Square, Pennsylvania; and James Moxley and Son,
West Friendship, Maryland. Ken Conway, Briggs, Texas,
served as judge and Jim Reeves, Keller, Texas, served as
associate judge.
The reserve junior champion female ribbon at the 1990
Western National Angus Futurity went to Northcote
Norene. She Is owned by Northcote Farm, Forest, Virginia;
Fox Hill Farm, Unionville, Pennsylvania; and Oklahoma
State University, Stillwater.
for M&M Angus, Pleasanton,
California.
This group of Kentucky Angus
breeders Billy Hawkins, Ash
camp; Hicks & Yeary, Midway;
and H.B. Walters & Son, exhi
bited the reserve early junior bull
calf champ. He is B&J Eclispe of
HY 2098.
Premier Angus Inc. earned
another championship ribbon by
exhibiting the late junior bull calf
winner. He is Premier Heat.
Judges Conway and Reeves
awarded the reserve late junior
bull calf title to S R C C Dozer S
S, owned by Greg Lechner, Scotts
Mills, Oregon.
Annalea Marchesa, owned by
Fox Hill Farm and Annalea Farms
Ltd., won the senior champion
female ribbon. The reserve senior
champion female title went to
Ankony Lass T 4367. She is own
ed by Ankony Shadow Isle Ranch.
Reserve junior champion
female laurels went to Northcote
Norene. She is owned by North
cote Farm, Forest, Virginia; Okla
homa State University, Stillwater;
and Fox Hill Farm.
Bear Creek June 8370 claimed
the intermediate champion female
spot for Bear Creek Angus Ranch,
Cameron, Montana. John Knapp
and Guy Kitchen, both of Sandy,
Oregon, showed the reserve inter
mediate champion female, C C K
Java.
R&J June 2958 won the senior
heifer calf champion title for Bear
Creek Angus Ranch and G F Erica
892 won the reserve senior heifer
calf ribbon for Carla Smith, Rus-
kiiypiE mt
sell Springs, Kentucky.
The reserve early junior heifer
calf winner was Knapp Moxie,
and she is owned by Shelley
Weaver, Brimfield, Illinois.
Bear Creek Angus Ranch added
another riboon to their string.
They showed the late junior heifer
calf champ, B C Miss Excitement
9215. Another junior Angus mem
ber from Auburn, California, Matt
Watson, led out the reserve late
junior heifer calf winner. She is
Five Star Mary Mac Kenzie 179.
In the cow/calf divisions, the
champion cow with a natural calf
was Annalea Classic Example and
her March bull calf, sired by G D
A R Rainmaker 340. The pair is
owned by Annalea Farms Ltd.,
Fox Hill Farm and James Moxley
and Son, West Friendship, Mary
land. Black Bear Elba 66 and her
September, Brost Dan Patch heif
er calf were named the champion
cow with an embryo calf. They
were shown by C I Ranch, Los
Olivos, California.
Andra Janssen, Wilton, Califor
nia, exhibited the reserve champ
ion cow with a natural calf. The
cow is Five Star Carrera 226 and
she had a September, 4 S Blacks
tone heifer calf at her side.
For the second year in a row,
R&J June 1694 offspring won the
produce of dam category. The
champions were shown by Bear
Creek Angus Ranch.
This year’s Western National
Angus Futurity Herdsman Award
went to Kirk Hoffman of Goshen
Farm, Paris, Kentucky.
The senior champion at the 1990 Western National
Angus Futurity held recently was Annalea Marchesa. She
Is owned by Fox Hill Farm, Unlonville, Pennsylvania, and
Annalea Farms Ltd., Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.

and Freeman Farm, Cumberland, Virginia, showed the
reserve Junior champion bull at the 1990 Western National
Angus Futurity.

Northwest Tour
Deadline Nears
UNIVERSITY PARK (Centre
Co.) — Time is running out for
Pennsylvania beef and sheep pro
ducers to participate in the 1990
Northwest Stockman’s Tour at
reduced travel rates.
‘This tour is a result of produc
er inquiries about production and
management practices used by
western beef and sheep produc
ers,” said Clair Engle, Penn State
associate professor of animal sci
ence. “Cooperative extension and
industry personnel in both Pen
nsylvania and the West have
organized an extended 13-day
educational tour throughout south
central and northeastern Oregon,
across the rangelands of Idaho,
and mountains of southwestern
Montana.”
The tour itinerary includes
forage/animal production prac
tices, innovative livestock breed
ing schemes, multi-land use of
public lands, “niche marketing"
programs, and livestock research
trials.
Reduced airfare reservations
for the September 10-23 activity
are available only until June 8.
