MADISON, Wis.— The board of directors of Livestock Conser vation Institute (LCI) approved several resolutions at the LCI annual meeting held April 3-5, 1990, in Louisville, KY. The Board recommended that LCI establish itself as a coordinat ing point for the animal product industry, to exchange information on food safety issues, and generate understanding of challenges each group in the chain faces, in an effort to generate appropriate responses to food safety assurance issues. In addition, that LCI devel op and promote educational pro grams for implementation of qual ity assurance for the animal pro duct industry. And Older ing the development of methods other than antibiotics/sulfa for the treatment and prevention of masti tis; 14) Recommending that mat ters pertaining to the Plum Island Animal Disease Center be directly handled by the offices of the admi nistrators of the Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) and the Agricultural Research Service (ARS); 15) Encouraging the United States Department of State, the United States Agency for International Development, and the United States Department of Agriculture to support the Pan American Health Organization in its effort to eliminate this disease from our hemisphere; 16) Urging APHIS and USDA to take whatever actions are needed quickly, to make the latest technology on acaricides available so the pilot project regarding bont tick eradi cation on Antigua can be started; and 17) Recommending that USDA closely monitor the situa tion in Mexico and provide assis tance to control hog cholera and to assure reliable mechanisms to pre vent outbreaks of the disease in this country.
