CHAMBERSBURG (Franklin
Co.) Guernsey breeders from
across Pennsylvania gathered at
the Chambersburg Holiday Inn
March 30-31 for their annual con
vention. Activities included the
59th Annual Awards banquet, a
junior awards breakfast, the
crowning of the 1990 Pennsylva
nia Guernsey Queen, and the 11th
Annual Blue Heifer Calf and Bred
Heifer Sale.
At the awards banquet Friday
evening. Axel Linde and Millie
Widmann of Oxford received the
awards for the High Herd in 1989
and the High Cow for Milk and
Protein.
The brother and sister milk 53
cows with an RHA of 16,928
pounds of milk, 757 pounds of fat
and 599 pounds of protein. Lin
dcnhof J. Bonus Xenia milked
27,173 pounds of milk, 867
pounds of fat and 877 pounds of
protein.
Receiving the award for the
High Cow for Butterfat was Rutter
Brothers Dairy of York County.
Rutter Brothers B.T. Lotty pro
duced 21,458 pounds of milk,
1069 pounds of fat and 689
pounds of protein.
Beth Clark, Bedford, was
crowned the 1990 Pennsylvania
Guernsey Queen by Angelique
McDonald, outgoing state queen
and a national Guernsey Princess.

The George W. Snyder Award
went to Carrie McKenzie of Clin
ton for showing the grand champ
ion at the Pennsylvania Junior
Dairy Show. The award, presented
by Lee Yost, is given yearly by the
Columbia-Northeast Guernsey
Breeders Association.
Millie Wldmann recleved the awards for the High Herd In
1989 and the High Cow for Milk and Protein. Leo gutter of
Rutter Brothers had the High Cow for Butterfat.
Receiving awards at the Guernsey Convention’s awards
banquet were: Berneta Gable, left, who received the Paul
Brachman Award; Kristi Snider with the Sewlckley Trophy;
and Carrie McKenzie, who received the George W. Snyder
Award.
State Guernsey Breeders Give Awards
Receiving the Sewickley Tro
phy, presented yearly by the Pen
nsylvania Guernsey Breeder’s
Association, was Kristi Snyder of
New Enterprise. She showed the
grand champion female of the
Youth Show at the 1990 Pennsyl
vania Farm Show.
The Paul Brachman Award
went to Berneta Gable, New
Enterprise, who showed the Grand
Champion at the 1990 Pennsylva
nia Farm Show. The award is
sponsored by the Bradford County
Guernsey Breeders Association.

bersburg was named Outstanding
Guernsey Youth of Pennsylvania
at the Pennsylvania Junior Guern
sey Breeders’ Association’s
Awards Breakfast on March 31
The breakfast was held during
the state Guernsey Convention at
the Chambersburg Holiday Inn.
Mummert, 19, farms with his
father. They have a herd of 12
Guernseys, and use the Darling
Downs prefix. Receiving the
Pennsylvania distinction makes
Mummert eligible to compete for
the national title at the National
Guernsey Convention in Evans
ville. IN. in June.
Outstanding Guernsey Boy is
Galen McDonald of Imler, and
Melissa Morrow of Tyrone was
named Outstanding Guernsey
Girl.
Junior Production Awards

Guyer, and David Guyer. Melissa
Sulkosky will compete on which
ever team needs a member.
