Uses Recycled Packaging egg cartons. Dolco is the largest U.S. manu facturer of polystyrene egg car tons, a product used by the truck load by egg processors such as Sauder’s Eggs, based in Lititz, Pa. Packaging materials that can be recycled include meat trays, fast food containers, school lunch » >v Evenings trays, foam beverage cups, and previously used egg cartons. Dolco CEO Larry Rembold said he was encouraged by the FDA approval because it means the federal government has assigned a high priority to the opening of new markets for recycled products. /> In the March issue of “Sunnys ide” a newsletter for Sauder’s Eggs employees, producers, and customers Paul Sauder dis cussed his company’s concern about plastics recycling. Sauder is president of the family-owned egg processing and marketing business employing more than 200 full-time workers at its Lititz‘plant. Many of the eggs packed in the plant are shipped in plastic foam cartons. Sauder pointed out that plastic foam is an ideal packaging mater ial because it is economical, ster ile, relatively unaffected by mois ture, and does not support the growth of bacteria. Recognizing that plastic foam is a minor ingredient in the landfill mix, Sauder nevertheless voiced concern about the growing envir onmental impact of all the waste produced by Americans. He pointed out that plastic foam is one of the most recyclable of all our discards. There are no collection and marketing systems presently in place to allow the economical recycling of plastic foams. But MtK. ITS FITNESS YOU CAN MONK. In the same issue of “Sunnys ide,” there was a story about the 99.5-out-of-a-possible-100 score for a Sauder’s entry in the egg competition at the annual Pennsyl vania Farm Show in Harrisburg. No one associated with the com pany, or the Farm Show, or with the egg competition could recall an entry that had ever come so close to absolute perfection. Other stories talked about crea tion of a new product just in time for Easter eggs already hard boiled and colored. Nutritionist Pat Barton talked about changing ideas in nutrition for “Sunnyside” readers, and there was a story on an intriguing husband-and-wife team of egg producers, Leroy and Judy Esbenshade, who market their eggs through Sauder’s. 157.95 164.95 NY Add 7% Tax- Grand Total CUSTOMEI ADORES' TOWI
