D2O-Lanc*ster Farming Saturday, April 7,1990 ITHACA, N.Y.— The 99 beef bulls consigned to the 11th Annu al New York Bull Test at the Cor nell Teaching and Research Cen ter in Harford, NY have estab lished a new level of performance for the 4th weigh period recorded on March 20. These bulls representing 59 breeders in six states had a record 4th period average daily gain (ADG) of 4.12 pounds. This resulted in a cumulative (112 of 140 days) ADG of 4.28 pounds ami their weight per day of age (WPDA) is 3.29 pounds. William Greene, test director, said, '‘The 4th weigh period figure clearly depicts the quality of the bulls on test and the maternal genetic abilities oi these bulls. The second meeting is April 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the Maryland Agri cultural Experiment Station’s Beltsville facility, located on Beaver Dam Road on the grounds of the U.S. Department of Agri culture’s Beltsville Agricultural Research Center. Hairy vetch, crimson clover, and a vetch/ crimson mixture were planted here in the fall of 1989. Dr. Morris Decker, professor emeritus in the agronomy depart ment at the University of Mary land at College Park, will intro duce speakers at both meetings. This son of Grubbs MacKenzie had a 4th period ADC of 6.29 pounds for a cumulative ADG of 5.84 pounds (high indivi dual cumulative) and a WPDA of 3.24 pounds. The 30 Angus bulls from 13 breeders have a4th period ADG of 4.09 pounds resulting in a cumulative ADG of 4.38 pounds. Their overall WPDA is 3.26 pounds. The number two gain spot is shared by a Polled Hereford and a Shorthorn. The 28 bulls from 15 Polled Hereford breeders had an ADG of 4.05 pounds,a cumula tive ADG of 4.10 pounds and a WPDA of 3.19 pounds. Also having an ADG of 5.32 pounds is a Shorthorn (#95001) from Ashwood Farm, Castle Creek, NY. This son of Alexander also has a cumulative ADG of 5.30 pounds and a WPDA of 3.83 pounds. The fourth highest gain ing bull for this period is also a Shorthorn (#95091). This son of Ayatollah, consigned by Spring brook Farm, Parish, NY, had an ADG of 5.18 pounds, a cumula tive of 5.26 pounds and a WPDA of 3.70 pounds. Seven Shorthorn breeders have consigned 10 bulls for an ADG of 4.37 pounds result ing in a cumulative ADG of 4.50 pounds and a WPDA of 3.34 pounds.
