This year’s Crops Day will be held Wednesday, February 21, from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., at the 4-H Center in the Warren County Fairgrounds. He will discuss com growing practices to produce top yields. * John Yocum, senior research associate in Penn State agronomy, “Weed Control in Com and Alfal fa.” A general discussion of cur rent weed control strategies for agronomic crops. There will be a review of some of the problems that were encountered with herbi cides the previous growing season and what can be done to minimize the potential for repeat occur ences. New products and best strategies for controlling some of the more troublesome weeds will be reviewed. Also, “Integrated Weed Management Practices,” will review practices that can be used to reduce the dependency on herbicides. The goal is to evaluate damage potential by understanding the plant’s resource allocation priori ties. And, “Protecting Groundwater A Guide For the Pesticide User.” Some farm chemicals have been linked to non-point pollution of groundwater supplies. Steps to reduce this type of contamination will be discussed. The Crops Day Program will qualify licensed pesticide applica tors for two credits core and four credits category training. It is imperative that the participants bring along their applicator’s license and stay for the entire program to receive aU the credits.
