    HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.)
—National Meat Month is return
ing stronger than ever in February
with a new theme, “Meat Sim
ply Sensational.”
To help celebrate the event, the
Pennsylvania Beef Council is dis
tributing new point-of-purchase
promotion material to more than
1,500 stores throughout the state.
This year an ethnic flavor pro
motes Chinese, Italian, and Mex

Beef.”

to try new and different ways to
prepare beef. “The emphasis is on
variety and convenience,” said
Leon Acrich, beef and veal retail
coordinator for the Pennsylvania
Beef Cpuncil.
Information Resources, Inc., a
independent research firm, con
cluded in a recent survey that
point-of-purchase materials were
effective in generating, on aver
age, a three to five percent in
crease in fresh beef sales. “Con
sidering the volume of beef sold in
the supermarket, a five percent
gain in beef sales can make a sig
nificant impact on overall prof
itability in the store,” said Acrich.

Uniform filling
Forage blown into tho center of the «k> through the (111 chute (standard equip
ment) i* distributed uniformly to the silo wall and compacted by the 16-in
diameter auger This gels mors feed into a given silo, reducing storage cost
per lon
Whenever lead reaches the wall, an advance switch moves the auger forward
clockwise a law inches ter delivery and compaction of the next step of feed
If Mlmg is Interrupted, the auger "warts" for more forage to be delivered This
even distribution minimizes air pockets, center core and wall pressures, to re
tain toed value
As the silo is filled, the machine raises automatically as needed A steel
cylinder, 30 in long and 19 in in diameter, is suspended under the center of the
machine This cylinder creates the center discharge hole in the middle of the silage
as the machine is raised The Big Jlm a system easily handles the nonstop filling
