GEORGETOWN, DE The
Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc.
(DPI), the 4,000 member trade
association working for the con
tinued progress of Delmarva’s
more than one billion dollar a year
poultry industry, has new officers
and directors for 1990.
Harry J. Mitchell of Berlin,
Maryland is the new president.
Mitchell owns Mitchell Farm,
Inc., a 132,000 capacity broiler
operation. He has been in the
chicken business most of his life,
working as a grower and company
flock supervisor. For four years
Mitchell was chairman of DPl’s
Grower Committee. As Ist Vice
President of DPI in 1989, he
chaired the association’s fund
drive which raised a record high
$415,000.
DPl’s new Ist Vice President is
Alden H. Balfany of Salisbury,
Maryland. He has been a DPI
director since 1984. Balfany is
president of Central Grain, Inc., a
grain brokerage with several ele
vators on the Delmarva Peninsula.
Dr. G. Thomas Holder of Salis
bury, Maryland is the 1990 2nd
Vice President. Dr. Holder is
Director of Avian Health for
Allen’s Hatchery, Inc., Seaford,

Delaware. Though a relatively
new member of the board, Dr.
Holder has been active in DPI for
many years, serving as chairman
of the Poultry Health Committee
from 1980-1987.
The Immediate Past President is

Delaware. Lynch is president of
