During the recent Lancaster County Farmers’ Association
-farm tour, tickets were offered for a chance to win a handmade
Hereford lamp. The lucky winner was the John and Kim Stall
ings family of Lancaster. The presentation, made Tuesday,
gathered from left, Isaac Gelb, tour organizer; Dottle Metzler of
Salunga Acres In Salunga, crafterof the lamp; David Stallings,
414 ; Sarah Stallings, 7; and Kim Stallings.
The proceedings from the drawing go toward sending the
Pennsylvania Polled Hereford Queen, Sonya Shearer, to the
national Polled Hereford queen competition In Texas In Janu
ary. About 1,000 people attended the two-day tour, which
Included a visit to Salunga Acres, which has Polled Herefords,
as well as a dairy farm, hog farm, and pheasant farm.

Atlantic Dairy Cooperative
President Robert B. McSparran
was elected second vice president
of the National Milk Producers
Federation (NMPF) during the
organization’s annual meeting
Nov. 27 through 30 in Nashville,
Tenn.
McSparran’s election as an
NMPF officer is a continuation of
his active participation in the Fed
eration, which represents dairy
farmer interests in national dairy
legislation. McSparran has served
on NMPF’s board of directors and
is a nine-year member of the
executive committee.
Of his new position, McSparran
said, “I hope to be able to provide
leadership in developing policies
for the benefit of all dairy farmers
as we head into the 19905.”
For more than 40 years,
McSparran has been active in the
dairy industry, both as a producer
and as a member of various farm
organizations. He recently was
elected to his 10th term as presi
dent of Atlantic Dairy Coopera
tive, which represents 3,600 dairy
farm families in a seven-state
region.
McSparran and his wife, Char
lotte, farm in partnership with
their son, John W. They live in
Peach Bottom, Lancaster County.
