china, needlework and
furniture gave bidders a
variety from which to
choose.

Wilcox 17” stoneware
jugs sold for $5OO each.
A Fraktur from 1815 of
Keller’s Evangelical
Lutheran Church brought
$1,175 from a local buy
er. More than 25 lots of
fine Gaudy china sold for

sampler dating from
1803, “Mary Christ her
Hand and Needle 1803,”
was purchased by a Phi
ladelphia bidder against
strong local competition
for $5,500. A 1791
sampler by Mary Ann
Johnson sold for $l,OOO.
A square Sarouk rug was
bought by a New York
bidder for $l,BOO. An
unusual Chinese Style
glass door cabinet sold
for $3,400.
In all, the two-day
auction attracted many,
new bidders both from
the area and from afar.
According to one Alder
fer spokesperson, the
variety and the excep
tional quality of the items
sold made this auction
very successful. The fact
that Alderfer Auction
Company does not
require a buyer’s pre
mium or reserve gives
added incentive to most
buyers.
