CHRIST FISHER
We have been feeding Master Mix Feed
for 25 years. Our herd average really
climbed when we began Top Dressing
1890’s. This year, one of our cows - “Jane” -
peaked at 177 lbs. She was fed 42 lbs. of
1890’s and 9 lbs. of flaked pelleted dairy
feed plus forage. Feeding 1890’s really
helps to make our cows peak higher. It’s
important to concentrate on good manage
ment and good breeding, but you need a
feeding program that’s going to allow your
cows to milk to their fullest potential.

I switched to Master Mix Protek™ because I couldn’t get my cows to peak. I
wanted to make 18,000 lbs. of milk and I thought I had the genetics to do it. In
December of 1988, I changed to Master Mix Protek™. The majority of my cows
freshen during the summer months so that would give them time to get used
to the new feed. Believe it or not, I reached my goal in only 4 months with
days in milk nearing 200!
The butterfat has remained good and so has the breeding. I had heard about
Protek and with some encouragement from my herdsman, Lamar Hurst, I
decided to see what would happen with my herd. So far, I am very happy and
surprised how my cows have responded.

in Dec. 1987, my RHA was 20,000 lbs., 3.4
test and 698 lbs. of fat. In Aug. 1989, my RHA
was 22,787 lbs., 3.5 test and 797 lbs. of fat. Hay
and grain are fed at least four times a day and
corn silage Is fed two times. I always feed hay
before my grain. The cows like the 1890’s and
they really held their peaks. In May I switched
to the new 1890 Testmaker HF and I was sur
prised to see my test up 3 points in June. I am
very pleased with my production-and my herd
health and breeding are also good.
