Bedford County Exhibitor Wins In Polled Hereford Show
HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.)
An 18-year-old Penn State
sophomore showed the reserve
senior champion heifer in the
Polled Hereford cattle show dur
ing the 33rd annual Keystone
International Livestock Exposi
tion (KILE) in the State Farm
Show Complex. Stephen V. Fritz,
of Manns Choice, Bedford Coun
ty, Pennsylvania, has been a com
petitor at every KILE since the
1984 show.
“It seems like the show keeps
growing,” said Fritz. ‘This year
there are more commercial exhibi
tors, and that brought in more peo
ple. That suits us, because it’s
always better to win when there
are more people around.”
Fritz also picked up three rib
bons in class competition and
exhibited the best female bred and
owned by exhibitor in the Polled
Hereford junior breeding cattle
show.
Stephen’s family operates
Scenic View Farm in Manns
Choice. The 330-acre operation is
near Bedford. Stephen is a gradu
ate of Chestnut Ridge High
School in Fishertown. He is study
ing Animal Production at Penn
State.
His KILE reserve senior
champion heifer, “SVF Magic
Lass 29X” also captured ribbons a
week ago in judging at the Eastern
National Show in Timonium,
Maryland. The same animal was
grand champion Polled Hereford
at the Bedford County Fair in
August.
KILE, now in its 33rd year at
the State Farm Show Complex in
Harrisburg, is one of the premier
livestock shows in the nation.
Exhibitors have entered 3,500 ani
mals in this year’s show, vying for
an increased purse of $125,000.
The Expo is sponsored by the
Pennsylvania Livestock Associa
tion in cooperation with the Pen
nsylvania Department of Agricul
ture and the Farm Products Show
Commission.
