Hoboken, N.]., Oct. 11.1811... Comedian Nipsey Russell bom in Georgia, Oct. 13,
1924... Average length of days for the week ll hours 15 minutes... Oct. 15,1917, all
privately-owned ocean-going vessels are requisitioned by the government for the
duration of World War 1... Intolerance is the child of ignorance.
Ask the Old Fanner: What is "boss cheshnut weather" as
my grandfather called it? S. L £., Midi.
It refers to the belief that, in cold and damp weather, a horse
chestnut in the pocket will stave off rheumatism.
Home Hints: Lemon juice makes a handy hair rinse, especially
where water is hard.
OLD FARMER'S WEATHER FORECAST
New EngUnd: Indian summer-like days continue; then it's cloudy and cool mid
week; and finally rainy but still warmish. Can't complain for autumn.
Greater New York-New Jersey: Indian summer-like days extend the season and
make for a warm week; rainy days and cooling change the scene a bit.
Middle Atlantic Coastal; Indian summer-like days here, too, at first. Then a rain
storm bursts in and cools things off considerably. Oh, well.
Piedmont 4c Southeast Coastal: Clear and pleasant to start the week; rain is heavy in
the south at mid-week and it's cool; then irs sunny and warm.
