the amount of “surplus” milk.
New York State Congressman
Sherwood L. Boehlert (R-Utica,
NY) has introduced a measure that
would require the Commodity
Credit Corporation (CCC) to
deduct all milk products used for
social welfare programs BEFORE
calculating the amount of the
surplus. (Currently, milk is in
short supply both regionally and
nationally. Only butter is being
purchased in any quantity by the
CCC).
The need to protect viable farm
land from being used for landfills
will also be brought before dele
gates, as will a proposal to endorse
stronger efforts in the develop
ment of recycling and use of
biodegradables.
Lack of reciprocity in accepting
farm and plant inspections by cer
tain states in the Northeast will be
a subject of policy discussion and
action. Currently only Connecti
cut, Massachusetts and Louisiana
among the 48 contiguous states
refuse to accept the inspections of
other states.
