Waverly Farm Dominates Mid-Atlantic Jersey Show
BY PAT PURCELL
HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.)
—“Tall, stylish, put together end
to-end most correctly, an easy win
ner, a beautifully bodied c0w...”
said the show judge of the Mid-
Atlantic Regional Jersey Show
held in Harrisburg in conjunction
with the Pennsylvania All-
American Dairy Show last week.
Judge James P. Shaw of Mercer,
Pennsylvania, found no faults with
the best-uddered cow in an out
standing class of 3-year-olds and
returned to the class for his grand
champion and reserve grand
champion.
Glenyle S J Hetty from Spring
Valley Farm of Westminster, Md.,
captured the championship by edg
ing by several tremendous dairy
cows exhibited at this show which
brought more than 35 Jersey
breeders together from the East
Coast. Spring Valley Farm is own
ed by Wayne R. Stiles.
The reserve grand champion of
the show went to another well
known Jersey breeder from south
of the Mason-Dixon Line, the
Stiles of Waverly Farm. Waverly
Jerseys of Clearbrook, Va. clearly
dominated the show. They cap
tured the reserve grand title with
JRS Volunteer Britani, the second
placed 3-year-old, (the grand
champion was in first place) and
second best-udder in the class.
Owner on the reserve grand was
Randall Stiles and Waverly Farms.
This honor was one of many for
the Waverly Farm Jerseys on their
way to earning both the premier
breeder and premier exhibitor
awards from the 26th Pennsylvani
a All-American Dairy Show.
WF Saint Lyric, a senior year
ling, owned by Ginger Doody and
Waverly Farms took the junior
championship title in the show and
was also named best bred and own
ed junior animal. Reserve junior
champion went to the second
placed senior yearling heifer own
ed by Kris Stiles of Damascus,
Md.. The champion was Heaths
Grand Slam Sabrina.
Pennsylvania Jersey exhibitors
captured the Jersey First State
Herd Banner. Pennsylvania breed
ers who placed first in their class
were: Hillacres Jerseys of Peach
Bottom, junior calf; Four Spring
Jerseys, Centre Hall, senior year
ling in milk; best udder went to
Clearview Farm of Toughkena
mon; Top ’O Hill, Downingtown,
get-of-sire; Jennifer Lamborn,
Landenburg, dam and daughter.
The Virginians of Waverly Farms dominated the Mid-
Atlantic Jersey Show on their way to capturing both the pre
mier breeder and premier exhibitor awards. Pennsylvania
