EPHRATA (Lancaster Co.)
In a county dominated by Holstein
breeders, it is perhaps unusual that
the supreme champion dairy cow
at the Ephrata Fair was a Jersey.
But it was a clear choice forjudge
David Schuler of Fleetwood who
liked the senior two-year-old’s
udder and style.
The Jersey, Wilderness Viceroy
Zest, is owned by David P. Herbert
of Elizabethtown and is sired by
Wilderness Viceroy out of Wilder
ness Derringer Zing.
Showing the reserve grand
champion Jersey was Steve
Unangst of Ephrata. The FFA’er
showed a senior two-year-old,
Rock-Ridge Top Brass Pebbles,
that took the purple rosette.
Unangst also showed the junior
champion, Rock-Ridge Top Brass
Nugget, a March daughter of A-
Nine-Top Brass out of Rock Ridge
Sequel Apache. The reserve junior
champion, Wolfhill Pal Missie,
was shown by Robyn Groff.
The Holstein division was won
handily by Brian Sander’s dry
cow, Mar-Bett Stewart Kip. Kip is
a September, 1985, daughter of
Crescentmead Chief Stewart out of
Mar-Bett Marvex Kim.
The reserve grand champion
was the junior champion shown by
Marisa L. Weaver of Ephrata. The
4-H’er’s champion was an inter
mediate calf named Tidy-Brook
Computer Jewel.
A Sexation daughter, DP-
Moran Sexation Louise, was
selected as the reserve junior
champion Holstein. Owned by
4-H’er Casey E. Weaver, Louise is
a March daughter of Huberview
Sexation Majuro outof DP-Moran
Paddy Louie.
Tom Zartman Jr. of Ephrata
took both junior and senior champ
ion ribbons in the Brown Swiss
division and his senior two-year
old, Wind Mill Blend Calypso,
went on to become the grand
champion Brown Swiss. Gerald
Boyd, another Ephrata youth, took
all three Brown Swiss reserve
champion titles. Boyd’s dry cow,
KEB Clay View M Titan Roxie
was the show’s reserve grand
champion.
In the Ayrshire division, Cocali
co Amy, a dry cow owned by John
Gerhart, was selected as grand
champion. The six-year-old cow is
Casey E. Weaver, left, and DP-Moran Sexatlon Louise
won the reserve junior champion honors In the Holstein
show. Weaver’s sister, Marisa, had the junior champion,
Tidy-Brook Computer Jewel.
Jersey Is Supreme At Ephrata Fai
a Conebella Rumpelstiltskin
daughter out of Cocalico Star
Annabel. FFA’er Ronald Groff of
Ephrata had the reserve grand
champion Ayrshire. His champion
was his senior two-year-old.
Beech Creek Pudges Starglow.
Junior champion Ayrshire honors
went to the intermediate calf
shown by Robyn Groff, a 4-H’er
from Ephrata.
