The tall and stylish How crest Tradition Sunray outshined the competition at the West Lam peter Fair dairy show to be named the supreme champion. A five-year-old Holstein, Sun ray is a Sweet Haven Tradition daughter out of Howcrest Valiant Sky and is owned by John and Susan Howard of Willow Street. As a three-year-old Sunray had a record of approximately 26,000 pounds of milk. Competing against Sunray was Romela’s Skytop Rosy, the Guern sey owned by Ryan Brenaman; Milknhoney Earls Butterscotch, the Jersey owned by Jim Findley; and Locust Valley Chrissy, the Ayrshire owned by Rick Findley. Judge Dr. Jim McCaffrey selected the four-year-old cow owned by Elvin Hess of Conestoga to be the reserve grand champion Holstein. The junior champion Holstein was Cindy Barley’s senior year ling heifer, Bardale Starbuck Stel la. This was the first championship title for Barley, who is the 14-year old daughter of John E. and Jane Barley of Conestoga. The reserve junior champion rosette was awarded to the junior calf shown by Matt Kolb. The Brenaman family of Stras burg dominated the Guernsey competition, with the only ribbon awarded putside the family going to a cousin. Ryan’s intermediate heifer was named junior champion before going on to win the grand champion title. This was the first champion for the 7-year-old. It also was the first champion title for his sister, Laura, 10, whose junior calf, Romela’s King Marsha, was reserve junior and reserve grand champion. Steve Findley of Holtwood had both junior and reserve junior Ayr- Howcrest Tradition Sunray was named the supreme dairy champion at the West Lampeter Fair. The 16-year-old son of Ken and Kathy Findley, Steve had two champions at last year’s West Lampeter Fair as well. Steve’s younger brother, Rick, had both senior champions. The Manor chapter FFA’er showed Locust Valley Chrissy and Locust Valley Pixie, both of whom went on to be named grand and reserve grand champion, respectively of the Ayrshire competition.
