Two years ago I was averaging 18000 lb. with 3.2 test. I
began having breeding problems so I tested my forages and
balanced the feed but I still had problems. The water was then
tested and came back high in bacteria, nitrates, and sulfates,
so we put a water system in. By Feb. 1989 my RHA reached
21,079 & butterfat was up to a 3.5. At the same time, my
Income over feed cost went from $12.50 to $14.72 which is
what I like. In the summer 'BB, I began feeding grain and hay
four to six times a day and corn silage also 4 times. With this
feeding schedule, the appetites were great and i was hardly
cleaning any feed out of the troughs. Ketosis and off feed
problems have disappeared. The breeding has also taken a big
change. Last month my calving interval was down to 12.1.
This past May, Sensenig’s switched me to the new 1890 Test
maker HP and my test increased 2 points in June. That never
happened in other summers. The cows really like the new 1890
Testmaker HF. I think to get the genetic potential out of your
cows you need good water, good forages, and a well balanced
feed fed more than twice a day. I am very happy with my
results over the past two years and feel that all three played
an important part in my production and herd health.

I switched to Master Mix Protek™ because I couldn’t get my cows to peak. I
wanted to make 18,000 ibs. of milk and I thought I had the genetics to do it. In
December of 1988, I changed to Master Mix Protek™. The majority of my cows
freshen during the summer months so that would give them time to get used
to the new feed. Believe it or not, I reached my goal in only 4 months with
days in milk nearing 200!
The butterfat has remained good and so has the breeding. I had heard about
Protek and with some encouragement from my herdsman, Lamar Hurst, I
decided to see what would happen with my herd. So far, I am very happy and
surprised how my cows have responded.

Two years ago I changed from a 38% cone, to
feeding Master Mix Protek™ 25%, corn & top
dressing w/1890 Testmaker HF. My fresh cows
picked up almost right away. There Is also no prob
lem with cows eating the Master Mix 1890’s Test
master HF. They would eat more If I would give it to
them! In 2 years, my herd went from 15,000 to
19,000 & my test stayed about the same. I also
found out I had bad water so I put In a water system.
