Jennifer Cummins is the
daughter of Jane and Bill Cum
mins of New Castle. PA. She has
been an active member of her
Grange since the age of IS. and
her involvement includes serving
as Lady Assistant Steward of her
Subordinate Grange Big Beav
er #1578 and acting on the
Lawrence County Youth Commit
tee. In the past she also repre
sented Pennsylvania in the capaci
ty of 1985-86 State Junior Grange
Princess.
Jennifer is currently a sopho
more at Indiana University of
Pennsylvania, studying elemen
tary education. There she is also a
sister in AZD, a social sorority.
Her job this summer reflects her
interest in children as she is
involved in the child care profes-

the Grange,school. and ho- job,
Jennifer still has time for camping,
swimming, and softball. In fact,
for the third year in a row, her
softball team has advanced to
national competition.
Henry Seidel, the Male Ambas
sador is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Seidel. Henry is an active
and energetic Grange representa
tive. also. He comes from Virgin
villc Grange #1832, where he has
served as Gatekeeper and is pre
sently a member of the Berks
County Youth Committee. Team
sports are also an interest of Hen
ry’s. He has played for several
years on Grange volleyball and
softball teams.
Henry is presently a senior at
Berks County. Group 3, held its
July meeting at the home of Joan
Loeb. A family carnival with food
and games preceded the business
meeting.
Two members assisted at the
Farm Women booth held during
the Scenic River Days Festival in
Reading. Group 3 will serve
refreshments at an auction in
Shanesville on August 31. Mem
bers were reminded of the County
Convention on October 7.
Diane Eddy will instruct the
group in basketweaving at the

in their professional agricultural
honor fraternity.
Both Jennifer and Henry have
similar goals for the upcoming
year and the future of youth in the
Grange. Each one would like to
spread the word about what the
Grange has to offer for youth and
make the Grange a “group effort”
Jennifer would “like to set an
example for youth across the state
and show them what fun Grange
really is.” Henry wants to “work
with individuals in Grange who
are really excited about the orga
nization and help them spread the
enthusiasm.”

Eight members of the Berks
County Society of Farm Women
Group 9, and fourteen family
members attended the annual
picnic at the home of Karen
Schrcier, Douglassville, on
August 6. Lunch, swimming and
conversation filled the afternoon.
The September meeting will be
held at the home of Joan Hafer of
Douglassville.
