attributed to news that Algeria had
rebid for 160,000 metric tonnes of
hard red wheat, with further buy
ing tied to spillover from con
tinued strength in com. Commer
cials sold heavily throughout the
day with commission house buy
ing providing stability. September
was confined to a 4 cent trading
range and settled unchanged at
$3.99-1/4 after trading from a low
of $3.96-1/4 to $4.00-1/4.
ACRES CATTLE UPDATE:
Live cattle and feeders ended
today’s session near unchanged in
light activity. Live cattle were
under pressure from technical sell
ing tied to indications that October
had established a major top. A
slightly weaker tone to the cash
markets prompted additional sales
with the USDA reporting top steer
prices at $74.50/cwtin western
Kansas. Reports of light boxed
beef sales yesterday at lower
prices coupled with expectations
for weaker cut-out values added
further pressure. Fats settled from
unchanged to 27 points lower as
feeders closed from IS points low
er to 23 points higher. Some posi
tioning was featured in front of
tomorrow’s USDA 7-State Cattle
on Feed report.

short covering and spillover from
the poik belly pit. Prices also
found support from expectations
for steady to higher midday values
with gains held in check by cash
market weakness. Bellies were
higher on short covering and tech
nical buying attributed to
increased user demand and expec
tations for firmer wholesale
prices. Bellies settled limit higher
in the February through July
options and gained 19S points on
the August August hogs settled

the 1989 tobacco marketing year. We are currently
handling phone calli from several companies trying to
find out hqw much volume we will be selling this
year!
Harvesting & Curing Tips:
(1) Watch continuously for aphids
(2) Do not cut tobacco too young - make sure
good & ripe
(3) Do not hang tobacco too close in bam
especially this year
(4) Hang tobacco in north or west end of bam
first. Tty to fill a section full as moisture will
rise from hanging green tobacco under partly
cured tobacco.
(5) Clou bam in damp weather - open in diy weather.
Remember quality tobacco commands top prices
& quality Is largely determined at harvesting &
banting
