TROY, OH. More than 500
Shorthorn enthusiasts gathered in
Troy, Ohio for the National Junior
Shorthorn Show and Youth Con
ference held earlier this summer.
The week full of activities
included the competitive National
Junior Heifer and Steer Show. A
total of 225 cattle from 18 states
were evaluated by judges Joe Bill
Meng, Bowling Green, Ky., and
Scott Schaake, Lexington, Ky.
Taking home the week’s most
coveted honors was Lisa Master
son of Guthrie, Texas. She led her
heifer, CF Juliette 799 G ET, a
stout, voluminous daughter of
Seven T’s Greg, to the winners
circle as grand champion. Coming
out of the senior division, this
September senior yearling, bred
by Cates Farms, Modoc, Ind.,
weighed in at 1,465 pounds and
posted a frame score of 8.9.
Following Masterson with the
reserve champion female was
Andrew Brautigam of Sidney.
Ohio. JAMS Deetpark Amanda,
the 1988 national champion
female, continued to prove her
force in the show ring as this
super-complete daughter of Deer
park Leader 13th added to her list
of wins. The 1,350 pound, 9.3
frame female also was tapped as
grand champion bred & owned
female.
Shorthorn Junior Nationals Heat Up Ohio
The reserve champion bred &
owned female was DF Adeline’s
Daisy* shown by Meredith Flam
ing, Fairview, Okla. This senior
yearling daughter of 3W Payoff x
weighed 1,350 pounds with a
frame score of 8.9. She was named
champion female at the 1989
National Western earlier this year.
Grand champion purebred
market steer was CF Supreme
Steer 883 X, a white, 1,045-pound
son of CF Rambo x, exhibited by
Trevor Scamahom, Pimento, Ind.
Like the champion female, he also
came from the Cates Farm
program.
Reserve champion purebred
market steer was Knight’s Wedge,
exhibited by Andy Rahn, Virginia,
111. This 1,105-pound steer was a
son of CCS' Irish Dimension, and
was bred by Knight’s Shorthorns,
also of Virginia, 111.
Champion purebred prospect
steer was a white son of GS Deer
park ET exhibited by Mary Jett of
Beaver, Okla. Her steer, Eskimo
Joe, was bred by her family’s Jett-
Gardner Shorthorn firm.
Cy White, of Red Rock, Ariz.,
showed the reserve champion
purebred prospect steer, CCS
Thumper 91X. This son of HS
Instant Enticer was bred by Cag
win Farms, Virginia, lU._
The champion and reserve
champion appendix market steers
were exhibited by Paula Mark of
Greencastle, Ind., and Jamie Zbin
den, Cissna Park, 111.,
respectively.
Champion bred & owned steer
was a 1,140-pound, home-bred
entry from Donnie Obrecht, Har
lan, lowa.
