The partnership began in 1973 with their father, Wil liam, and Just last year the brothers began buying him out. Ed takes care of crop management, machinery maintenance and feeding, while Keith Is the herdsman and finance man. The operation consists of three farms, one of which is owned by Wil liam and houses the calves. The 170-head registered Holstein milking herd is on the main farm; older heifers and about 50 to 60 head of market steers are on the other. The Martins farm 390 acres, rent another 200 acres, and have 110 acres in pasture and mostly woodland. Last summer, when they built onto a barn so they could expand the herd, they opened it for more ventilation.
