Farm, Home Field Day Planned In Delaware
NEWARK, DE The Univer
sity of Delaware is sponsoring a
farm and home field day on
August 9 beginning at 9 a.m. at the
University’s Reseasrch and Edu
cation Center in Georgetown.
Professionals from the Univer
sity’s Agricultural Experiment
Station and Cooperative Exten
sion will be working to bring the
public the latest in agricultural and
consumer information.
“Field Day will focus on four
major program areas this year;
food safety, nutrient management,
water treatment and dead chicken
disposal,” says Dr. William Ritter,
Farm and Home Field Day chair
person.
Extension food and nutrition
specialist Dr. Sue Snider will head
up the food safety information
with facts on pesticide residues
and salmonella and virus contami
nation in foods.

en composting as an environ
mentally sound disposal alterna
tive for Delamarva poultry pro
ducers.

and scientists from the USDA
Beneficial Insects Research Lab
oratory will give a brief presenta
tion on biological insect control.
Also on display will be exhibits
on environmental quality from
state and civic organizations. The
