August options with reports of light fed
cattle sales and lower cut-out values tem
pering buying activity. Selling was limited
by the sentiment that cash fundamental
weakness had already been factored into
the market. Buying in feeders continued on
news of higher replacement prices at the
auction bams along with a slightly higher
cash index price. Some short-covering in
the deferred months was noted.

Acres Hog Update: Hog futures
closed from 13 lower on the February to 4S
poinu higher on the July after a fairly fea
tureless session. Support was attributed to
ideas that producers were beginning to
hold back on their marketings after weak
ness early week along with spillover from
activity in the pork bellies. Bellies were
again the hot spot today with limit gains on
the July option midday and then telling
tied to lower wholesale values. Bellies
closed from 45 poinu lower to 132 poinu
higher. The cash markets today were
steady to $l.OO lower with Omaha quoted
at $45.00 to $47.00 and Peona at $45.50 to
$47.00. Slaughter today was 315,000
which compares with 290,000 last year for
the same period. Hams were $2.00 to $5.00
lower with loins unquoted.
