    For Moving Barn To Museum
KINZERS (Lancaster Co.)
Arthur D. Hershey, state represen
tative from Chester County, has
been selected as chairman for the
advisory board appointed by
Rough and Tumble Museum for
its historic bam moving project.
Other advisory board members
include: Senator Gibson Arm
strong (Lancaster County); Repre
sentative Kenneth E. Brandt (Lan
caster County); Gene Hemphill,
who is in charge of public rela
tions for Ford New Holland; Lan
caster County Commissioner
James Huber; Christian Kunzlers
Jr., president of Kunzler & Co. of
Lancaster; Gerald Lestz, owner of
Stemgas Publishing; Richard
Vanderberg, engineering manager
of Cleaver' Brooks, Lebanon;
Lloyd Wenger, manager of Wen
gers Farm Machinery of Myers
town; and Wendall Woodbury,
editor of “Our Heritage” on
WGAL-TV.
Rough and Tumble Museum,
located on Route 30 at Kinzers,
has accepted the gift of a German
style'bank bam built in 1869. The
bam, presently located along the
Fruitville Pike north of Lancaster,
will be disassembled - with each

piece marked - and reassembled
on the museum’s grounds. At
Rough and Tumble Museum the
bam will become an appropriate
display setting for many of the
pieces of early farm equipment
and machinery, originally built
nearby, which the museum has
collected in its 40-year history.
The bam, given to Rough and
Tumble Museum by Robert and
Esther Lafever, has served three
generations who farmed the land,
but its proximity to Lancaster dic
tates that the land become a setting
for lovely single-family homes.
Thus the bam, which sits astride
what will become a wide residen
tial street, must be moved to a new
location or lost forever.
Construction for the foundation
of the relocated bam will begin af
ter the August “Threshcrmen’s
Reunion,” a living-hostory show
that is an annual event of Rough
and Tumble Museum and for
which it is known nationwide.
Much interest has been demon
strated in a possible “Amish
style” bam raising when the build
ing is reconstructed cn the mu
seum’s grounds. This event seems
likely in the spring of 1090.
