Pork Producers To Develop
Production
At Pork Forum ’B9 in Kansas
City, Mo., National Pork Produc
ers Council delegates approved the
concept to develop standardized
production guidelines, which
topped the list of recommenda
tions made to the delegates by
NPPC’s Animal Welfare Task
Force.
“This will involve a review of
existing production research and
recommendations used in the
industry,” said Dr. David Meeker,
NPPC director of research and
education. “The guidelines are not
intended to be used for restrictive
The gear box on the Brillion flail shredder is made in Brillion’s own
modern foundry. It is then assembled with husky machine cut
gears and tapered roller bearings. Input and output shafts are IV*"
diameter. The geat box is designed to match the horsepower of
large tractors... to keep going when others heat up and quit.
When you buy a Brillion you get the BEST... built-in quality with added strength where it
counts...all the way from the heavier hood with replaceable wear plates, right down to the
dynamically balanced rotor with knives installed to provide smooth, vibration-free operation.
With your Brillion you can cut and shred a full 12 or 15 foot of residue. And you can move
right along without costly and time-qonsuming breakdowns. The rotor shaft is made of 1 3 /i ”
steel. Drives between the gear box and pulleys are 2 V* ” high capacity tubing, shielded by a
metal sleeve. The PTO shaft is integrally shielded with a dent-resistant plastic tube.

or regulatory purposes, but rather
as a self-regulating educational
tool.”
Meeker added “Many animal
welfare groups are developing
guidelines of their own. It’s impor-.
tant that the pork industry develop
its own guidelines so we’ll end up
with something that’s workable
and reasonable.”
A working version of the NPPC
guidelines is being developed. For

Decholesterolization,
Liquid Eggs
Of the two new egg product
technologies that belong to
Michael Foods Inc., the one that
involves decholesterolization,
which has most driven the com
pany’s stock price and has
received the widest public atten
tion, is the one furthest from com
mercial application. That process,
which removes more than 90 per
cent of the cholesterol from eggs in
the powdered form, is still in the
research phase, and a company
official has termed all the attention
“premature.”
Michael’s other egg technology,
which produces Easy Eggs, a liq
uid ullrapasteurized egg product
targeted at mass feeders, has been
launched. The company will
expand capacity for Easy Eggs
from the current 25 million pounds
a year to 325 million pounds by
July, according to reports.
