This little girl had a hard time deciding whether she
enjoyed Elsie the cow or Elsie’s Ice cream better.

BY LOU ANN GOOD
MECHANICSBURG (Dau
phin) “Hey,” Elsie the cow
asked a little girl, “can you wiggle
your ears?”
Try as she might, she could not.
“I can wiggle my ears,” Elsie
said.
Sure enough, her ears wiggled
and wiggled and brought some
giggles from the girls and boys
watching.
Elsie the cow came the whole
way from Disney World, Florida,
to tell the boys and girls who vis
ited Kams Market, Merchanics
burg, about her family and friends.
Elsie’s family and friends are
part of the Borden company. Elsie

help sell milk and ice cream. That
makes Elsie 69 years-old. That’s
fairly old for a cow, but Elsie
dpesn’tactherage. She flutters her
bright brown eyes and winks if you
tease her.
Some people think Elsie is a
fake cow. But when they walk near
her, Elsie calls out, “Hi. How are
you today?”
Startled, the shoppers stop and
stare. Some people find it hard to
talk with a cow, but Elsie likes to
talk. She especially enjoys hearing
them tell her how much they enjoy
her ice cream and milk.
If you never have a chance to
talk with Elsie, you can eat her ice
cream. Elsie moos, “If it’s Borden,
it’s got to be good.”

am in eighth grade at Immaculate
Conception School in New
Oxford. I am 13 years old and I
don’t have any brothers or sisters.
I live on a 50 acre farm with my

maker and with my grandma.
We have 18 cows and 12 calves.
We also have two guineas, 2 sheep,

I like the chores I have around
the house, especially feeding the

big tractors and bale hay. I also like
to take walks in the woods, ride my
bike and play the violin. I almost
forgot, I have two goldfish. Bub

I like to do and read the Kid’s
Komer in the Lancaster Farming
paper that my dad gets.
I thought you would like to
know that I am the fourth genera

mom’s parents lived here first and
so forth. Our house is over 100 or
so years old. Our bam is 112 years

Hi!
My name is Jeffrey Martin. I
live on a 112-acre farm in Port Tre
vorton, PA. We farm only about 85
acres of the 112 acres.
We have 11 cows, 16 heifers, 1
butt, 7 horses, about 125 chickens,
2 dogs and 15 cats.
The horses’ names are Fred, Pat,
Tony, Polly, Prince, Tom and Son
ja. The dogs names are Lassie and
Duke. I had a third dog, Pepper,
but he got run over by a car about a
month ago. He was very special to
me and 1 was very sad when he got
hit. But I plan to get another dog in
May.
I have no brothers or sisters to
fight with so I have to fight with
the animals. Out of those 16 heif
ers I take care of 14 of them. I also
take care of the chickens.
I like school very much, but not
the homework I get! Most of my
teachers are very nice. We do lots
of special activities in school to
make up for the homework —or at
least that’s what I think. Sometime
this month, we will clean the
Selinsgrove Bypass near Selings
grove, PA where my school is
locateid. That will be lots of fun!
