    Quality Reigns At Maryland
Junior and reserve Junior champion of the 4-H Maryland
State Holstein show went to Shane Schwartzbeck with
reserve champion, Peach and Plenty Strbk Dellgh and

liam Smith and Crystal Smith all
placed on the top in the remaining
classes. The 4-year-old cow from
Crystal Smith, OCS Dairy Phils
Candy, not only took first in the
open show in her class, but also in
the junior show which enabled her
to capture the grand champion tro
phy as well.
The lager family from Fulton,
showed the strength and depth of
their herd in the junior show as
they placed in the top three in five
out of the six classes. Matthew
took the first place ribbons in three
of the heifer classes, senior heifer
calf, summer and junior yearling.
His senior heifer calf, Md-
Maple-Lawn Dixiecrat Queen,
was the junior champion female
competing in the largest class of
the day with 28 animals. She is an
Ocean-View Dixiecrat daughter'
out qf Md-Maple-Lawn Creek
Queen. Matthew’s brother, Mark,
placed second in the intermediate
heifer calf and their cousin, Tan
ya. placed second in the senior
yearling class.
Shane Schwartzbeck took the
■reserve junior champion rosette
with his senior yearling, Peace &
Plenty Strbk Delight. The remain
ing two first place winners were
Jenell Rinehart and Donna
Johnson.
The Smith family from Jeffer
son, and the Savage family from
Knoxville, were the top winners in
the cow classes as their animals
placed in the top three in five Clas
ses out of eight. OCS Dairy Phils
Candy, owned by Crystal Smith,
captured the grand champion title
of the show as well as senior
champion. Her first place 4-year
old is a OCS Dairy Elevation Val
daughter out of Ken-Ric Hannibal
Cindy-ET.
The Junior All-American and
the All-Maryland 3-year-old of
1988, took the reserve senior and
reserve grand champion of the
show. Christopher Savage’s first
place dry 4-year-old, Savage-
Leigh RORAE Chrissy, just
couldn’t compete with the milking
4-year-old in the bloom of her lac-
